Benefits

  1. Have the ability to hold incredible amounts of water. Anything up to 20 times its own weight.
  2. Excellent as a additive to seed-raising or potting mix to retain moisture.
  3. The addition of the Sphagnum to growing media will assist in the reduction of compaction especially in seed-raising mixes.
  4. Adds more air space to mixes.
  5. Sphagnum Moss is easily penetrated by the young roots of seedlings and small plants. This them makes the young plants easy to transplant as the soil comes away from their roots better, leaving an increased number of the small delicate water and nutrient gathering roots.
  6. Has natural antibiotic activity that reduced the incidents of dampining off and other fungus related problems. When added to seed-raising and potting mix, it can increase the germination rate and survival of seedlings.
  7. Good resistance to decay.
  8. Sphagnum keeps seeds and plants constantly moist, yet is porous enough to allow good oxygen penetration (an absolute requirement for good germination).
